This is a SMALL CD/DVD reader/writer that functions exactly as expected. I connected it to my HP notebook and it worked immediately. Note: you will have to install some sort of DVD software to use the DVD function in Windows 10. I use VLC Player and my DVDs played fine with it. Note that it comes region set to Region 1 (US and Canada) but allows this to be changed 4 times.I ran a DVD with VLC player and it ran fine, skipped around throughout the DVD without issue.
I was able to burn to DVD R+ and DVDR- without issue using NERO.
I also tested NERO on CDR and CDRW and it ran fine. DVD speed was a bit under 8X but I was running this without the additional power connector (there are two cables, a USB 3.0 cable and a USB to a mini power cable). Mine ran fine without use of the power cable. I was happy to get this working without the additional power cable as I'm sure my attachment to this cable, used for nothing else, will be quite temporary.
Size-wise, it is as small as any DVD reader or CD reader I've seen as far as footprint. It may be a bit thicker than the thinnest I've seen and seems quite solid and perhaps a bit heavy for its size.
The 'manual' is one piece of paper that contains a few lines of a product description on one side and a few lines of instructions on the other, all of which are already on the box. It does not contain the manufacturer information anywhere as part of the package, so I hope I have no issues with it.
Overall, I'm impressed with this little drive. It shows up in my system as a Liteon, but I don't know if that is correct or not.
