I know you can't just plug and go and that there are certain certificates you must install before being able to use your CAC on your personal computer.

I am in US Military and we often use a Common Access Card (CAC) to access various sites and networks for authentication. Setting this up under Snow Leopard was very easy, and even under Lion I only had to add two files to my key chain to make it work. Using the card is an everyday event for me. I also use it to regularly digitally sign documents. So far everything has been going rather well.
However, we are now moving towards a new e-mail system that uses MS Exchange and MS Outlook OWA. Not my call, and I am not really looking to debate on the rightness or wrongness of that decision.
What I can't seem to figure out is how to make an Exchange account that requires the use of the CAC for authentication. When setting up the account, even when Mail seems to connect to the exchange server, it always asks for a password rather than a digital ID. I can login with my CAC via the web site at the '/OWA/...' address from safari, but there are a few glitches on the web page that are bit of an annoyance. I can't use Firefox to even try it out because for some reason Firefox just won't access my CAC for site authentication.

It would be a much more convenient solution if I could just set up the account from within mail so I can merge things like calendar and contacts with the new mail system that is being forced upon me. Any help or guidance with this issue is much aprecciated.
