I have an external USB drive formatted for Mac OS X with 200 GB of data that I need to transfer to a Windows machine.
I have an external USB drive formatted for Mac OS X with 200GB of data that I need to transfer to a Windows machine. Windows can't read the Mac-formatted drive. We thought about reformatting the drive using the Windows FAT file system but many of the files to be shared are too large. NTFS won’t work because the Mac can’t write to it. Is there a way to read the Mac OS X journaled file system disk from the Windows machine?
The program MacDrive is a Windows program that enables your Windows PC to read and write to Mac OS X disk drive formats. MacDisk is a similar Windows utility for reading and writing to and from Mac-formatted disks. Both are commercial products. MacDrive is priced at $49.95 and MacDisk at $66.74. Trial versions of both products are available from the companies' Websites. The MacDrive trial version is fully functional with a time limit of five days. The MacDisk trial is feature limited and will not copy entire files larger than 1MB. MacDrive installs easily and provides transparent access to Macintosh volumes. When you plug in your USB drive the program will recognize it and add it to the list of available drives in the My Computer screen on your PC. You can even format Mac disks from the PC using MacDrive. MacDrive is an extremely useful utility for moving large amounts of data between PC and Mac systems using external drives.
